My freshman year I was last chair in the region room. Then I made All-State twice. The difference was organization and strategies I developed the hard way that eventually guided me to Eastman, festivals, and international opportunities.
My own struggle has helped me guide so many of my students to success with their all state auditions in Texas, Florida, New York, Vermont, Colorado, and California.
No, each topic and skill will be taught and applied at your skill level. All level players are welcome. Many of the concepts taught are not commonly part of most band programs instruction, so all players should get new skills from the course.
The Course is twice a week for 8 weeks beginning September 16th. The current schedule is Wednesdays at 7pm Central Time, and Saturdays at 1pm Central time.
Don’t worry! All the classes are recorded and you can access the recorded information. Mock Auditions are important not to miss however but if you need to submit a recorded mock audition comments will still be sent so you can improve.
Most weeks are centered around a specific topic. One class each week may introduce the topic and provide guided practice and application while the second meeting will be more of a master class setting to resolve any confusion but also correct any previous issues with the audition music.
For example: Week one will center around practice pacing, how to record yourself and listen back in your practice session, and how to set achievable goals in each session.
Week Two will focus on pitch recognition and refinement. We will learn about tonal patterns and how to recognize them by ear in context. We will then practice applying this skill to various etudes.
Each week many students will have an opportunity to play a mini- mock audition in our second session. And questions are welcome from anyone throughout.
Most students are not familiar with hearing Tonic, Subdominant Dominant, Secondary Dominants. We tackle these with fun drills and learn to use composition to make playing any etude easier.
Most students are also not familiar with professional level work flow for practicing music and goal setting. We cover this as well.
There are many more topics to explore in our 8 weeks together. I honestly can’t wait!
Yes the class format is live, but the recorded classes are robust enough to guide your recording and performance projects in service to your upcoming auditions. We will meet at 7pm Central time on Wednesdays and 1pm central time on Saturdays. There are many PDF guides as well to help you through future practice and preparation after the class is finished.
In a ultra competitive evniroment you should learn from the best. Our instructors are proven experts who will help you level up your playing.
